James K. Barrick
Passed away on February 16, 2024
James Barrick passed away peacefully Friday, February 16, 2024, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born July 25, 1938, in Lebanon, Indiana. He was the oldest of four children. His brothers Gary, and Steven and sister Martha preceded his death. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jane Hufford Barrick of Skidaway Island, GA; son James Bradly Barrick and his daughter, Gianna Mari of Boise, Idaho; daughter Jan Barrick Noble and son-in-law John Theophilus Noble and their children, Bradley James and Margaret of Brookline, New Hampshire, along with many, many friends from around the country.
Jim graduated from Zionsville High School in Indiana where he excelled in athletics. He achieved an athletic scholarship to Butler University to play basketball and baseball, having the privilege of playing for the legendary Tony Hinkle. He was inducted into many Indiana Basketball Hall of Fames. After college he joined the United States Marine Corp and proudly served his country for 6 years including a tour in Vietnam flying helicopters and fixed winged airplanes. Receiving an honorable discharge, he then worked as an airline pilot for United Airlines for 33 years, retiring in 1998 as a 767 Captain. During his aviation career he was a farmer on the side, running a 700-acre farm of crops and livestock in Northern Illinois, which was truly his passion.
He was an avid golfer, loved country music, playing Euchre, all animals, people, cold beer and Livingston wine. He’ll always be remembered as a friend to everyone and loved by all and always willing to lend a hand or his truck to help anyone. Above all, one of his best characteristics was that he loved children, especially his grandchildren. He truly was a gentleman and one of a kind. He will be dearly missed.

He has slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies, reached out his hand and touched the face of God. Fly on, Jimmy, fly.
